Railroad Activity in WV

Huntington was founded by Collis P. Huntington and is named for the railroad magnate. The CSX Transportation Company still has a visible presence in Huntington and remains an important part of the local economy. The top photograph shows the headquarters building for CSX Transportation's Huntington Division. The bottom photograph has a statue of Collis P. Huntington that stands in front of the CSX Headquarters Building on 7th Avenue in Huntington, WV.

The above photos depict the epitome of luxurious transportation afforded the ultra-rich in the late stages of the 19th century and early 20th century. This is the private railroad car that once belonged to the famous financier J.P. Morgan. This car was used by Morgan to travel between his several homes and on business as he managed his huge fortune and business empire. This car is displayed at CSX Headquarters on 7th Avenue in Huntington, WV.
